OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
One of the objectives of the Molecular Pathology Section is to edit and publish the WHO Classification of Tumours series (WHO Blue Books), the objectives of which are to establish a pathological and genetic classification and grading human tumours that is accepted and used worldwide.
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of the Head of Section MPA, the incumbent will perform scientific technical editing of the WHO Blue Books to ensure consistency in English styles and scientific accuracy. Duties include:

1/ During the planning stages of WHO Blue Book projects, assist the Section Head:
- To draft book structures including headings,
- To ensure the accuracy of online submission system and other databases.

2/ Manage on a daily basis the scientific manuscripts submitted by contributors and to perform scientific technical editing to ensure that:
- The style of English is correct and consistent with the house style,
- Text and figure legends are concise and accurate and Figures are of high quality,
- Scientific references are correctly cited,
- Terminologies and abbreviations are used correctly and consistently,
- WHO Classification and ICD-O codes are accurate.

3/ Assist the Section Head to organize consensus and editorial meetings as well as related meetings, including the preparation of minutes and quality checking of working documents.

4/ Create a subject index and carry out the final checking of WHO Blue Books before going to press.

5/ Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Section Head.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: PhD degree in molecular pathology, molecular biology, genetics or related subjects.
Skills:
Good working knowledge of molecular pathology, cancer genetics, and molecular biology.
Demonstrated experience with technical editing of scientific manuscripts.
Ability to use computer programs such as Word, Reference Manager, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and Quark Xpress.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience:
Essential: A minimum of two years of professional experience either as a copy editor for scientific papers or as a scientist in the related subjects demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications. Some experience in preparing scientific manuscripts on molecular pathology, molecular biology, or genetics.

Desirable: Experience in international collaborative studies.
Languages:
English equivalent to mother tongue and working knowledge of French.
Additional Information:

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
EURO 54 890 (with slight variations) at single rate
EURO 58 520 (with slight variations) with primary dependants
