OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The objective of the programme is to design, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate appropriate policies and procedures to improve the security and safety of staff throughout the Organization.
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of Director, General Management, the incumbent will:
1- Review the security and safety situations in all EMRO areas of operations and recommend measures for improvements;
2- Undertake missions to assist WHO/EMR staff and non-staff operating in unsafe areas to advise them on how best to deal with the very serious security/safety problems which confront them on daily basis;
3- Undertake security assessment missions and provide relevant analysis on the security situation pertaining to countries;
4- Provide security training for staff and non-staff at both Regional Office level and field level;
5- Represent WHO in inter-country-meetings on security matters;
6- Liaise with Coordinator, SEC, and Field Security Officers in EMR countries on all security related issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
University degree in public or business administration, social or political sciences, international relations, governmental or law studies or fields related to security matters
Skills:
WHO Competencies:
- Fostering integration and teamwork.
- Creating an empowering and motivating environment.
- Setting an example.
Functional Skills:
- Relevant military or police training is an asset.
- Proven analytical skills, investigation background and knowledge of UN field operations would be an asset.
Other Skills (IT Skills):
- Good knowledge of MS Office tools
- Very good knowledge of all communication means used in the field: HF, VHF, satellite phones, RB-GAN, GPS.
Experience:
Essential:
At least 7 years relevant professional experience combined at national and international levels within governmental and corporate agencies and/or relevant military or police service.
Desirable:
Some years of experience in the field as a UN Field Security Officer.
Languages:
Essential:
Excellent knowledge of English
Working knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable. French is an asset.

US $ 66,482 at single rate
US $ 71, 393 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 37 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
