OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The Contry Analysis and Support/CAS Unit supports WHO effective presence at country level, including through the collection of data and gathering of intelligence and making policy and strategic proposals for use by the Regional Director in ensuring the improvement of he work of the organization at country level.

Description of duties:
1.Contribute to the design of systems for collection of data on WHO country presence strengthening, from WHO country offices, ISTs, Regional Office Divisions, WHO Headquarters clusters and other UN agencies, to support strengthening of WHO country presence in the region;

2.Analyze reports and data from WHO country offices and ISTs and, where relevant, provide summaries and mapping of data;

3.Working with WRs, follow up on the timeliness and quality of technical support from the ISTs and the Regional Office;

4.Support the establishment and operations of the AFRO Health Observatory;

5.Monitor progress towards implementation of WHO General Programme of Work (GPW) and AFRO Strategic Directions;

6.Maintain the AFRO Experts' database;
7.Identify good public health practices to be shared within the Region;

8.Undertake any other tasks as assigned by TCC or Regional Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Advanced degree in management and statistic analysis.

Desirable: Qualification in public health or epidemiology


Skills:
Proven knowledge in Health data gathering, processing and analysis. Considerable experience in strategy development, work-planning and evaluation of Public Health programs, especially at international level. Ability to advise, cooperate and negotiate with WHO country-offices, ISTs, technical agencies. Excellent interpersonal relationship and ability to work in a multicultural environment. Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively with various target audience.

Experience:
Essential: 7 years' experience in data management, including the design of systems for collection, data analysis and synthesis, within public health systems or in relevant development sectors and private sector areas, at the national and international level.

Desirable: Experience in WHO or international organizations/institutions. Experience in monitoring and evaluation of multi-country programmes.


Languages:
Excellent knowledge of French or English with a working knowledge of the other.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 66482 at single rate
US$ 71393 with primary dependants

Post Adjustment: 64.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
